Why Velocity Cycling Tours?

Why Velocity Cycling Tours?

Value

Our motto “We plan. You pedal.” means exactly that. We take care of all the details leaving you with the opportunity to just pedal, and pedal a lot with like-minded individuals who love cycling. We respect the cycling culture and provide flexibility to suit avid cyclists. Each bicycle tour is customized to the group, the terrain, and the weather.

We focus our efforts in the areas important to you; scenic yet challenging routes keeping you off the main highways, solid mechanical support on the road whenever you need it, great rest stops with provisions, a comfortable bed at the end of the day, and plenty of opportunities for you to get to know your fellow cyclists on the tour. We provide structure, but are flexible to your needs and the needs of the group. Your entire day is not planned out.

Personal Attention

Our tours are small. Our experienced team of cycling tour professionals will quickly get to know you and be there to assist you. After great morning rides, the afternoons are fairly open for you to explore, rest, or whatever. You can even take advantage of the massage therapists we’ve organized in most of the towns we overnight in, for an additional fee. Someone from your support team is always close at hand to provide information and support. Need a lift to the local pharmacy or tavern? Not a problem.

Ideal Group Sizes

Our bicycle tours are 40 cyclists or less; ideal for forming two or three pace lines of different speeds. In this size group you will never feel lost and will quickly form bonds with your pace group and the group as a whole. You will have opportunities to meet and interact with everyone in the group. A cycling “family” is formed for the week.

Superb Tour Leaders

Superb Tour Leaders: Your tour leaders are avid cyclists who have enjoyed and may still be enjoying a rewarding career in another field. They may be just like you, balancing family and career while still making time to pursue their passion for cycling. Our number one priority is for you to have a safe and enjoyable tour experience.

Lodging

Our bicycle tours are located in scenic rural America where lodging options are limited. Lodging will be of a good standard, but not five star. Chains we frequently utilize include La Quinta, Hampton Inn, and Best Western. We make every effort to have the entire group stay together in the same hotel each night; cyclists and crew. We have established good relationships with our host hotels and they always look forward to the charge of the lycra brigade!

Dining

In rural America, dining options can be limited. At VCT, we know our areas and have identified the best food options at each overnight. We will provide guidance, advice, and transportation. Many evenings we may split up into two or three smaller groups to sample various options in our host town. One of our favorite local fares is the chicken fried steak at the Blanco Bowling Alley!

Tour Participants

Tour participants should be avid cyclists. Our tours are designed for those who are passionate about cycling, enjoy the team work of a pace line, and want to push themselves to high levels of exertion. You work hard and play hard!

Tour Support

We’ve got you covered; excellent guides, detailed maps, daily ride briefs, mechanical support, SAG, rest stops, etc. We are serious cyclists just like you. We understand what you expect and we deliver. Want to know the best BBQ in town? We know; although in Llano, the BBQ capital of Texas, there are three contenders.

Eric Schoen

I think when I’m on the bike is the only time my competitive streak shows, and it’s through shear stubbornness that I’ve developed the stamina and strength to hang with the lead group… at least for the first 50 miles. I’ve been designing and mapping club rides since 2005, and have tried to keep up with advances in technology that allow us to create better and more usable maps. Our maps are colorful, readable, and contain all sorts of useful information, without being cluttered. Over the past few years, we’ve supplemented the maps with GPS navigator files for our riders who are GPS-equipped.

What Customers Are Saying:

“Trip was a 9.5 out of 10 for me. Well organized and fun… The distances were fine and well thought-out. No terribly short days and no monster days. I liked the casual approach “what time should we head out” and the fact that we didn’t start rolling at insanely early hours. The debriefs were good, but I mostly wasn’t paying attention.”
